The Trending Feed
The Trending Feed features content on CodePen that is generally very popular with your fellow CodePen members. It is sprinkled with curated content, which we call “Picked” items.
Picked Items
Picked Pens and Collections are handpicked by the CodePen staff or a invited guest pickers. Picked Pens will appear in the Trending feed shortly after they’re picked.
Why do we pick what we pick?
There is no science to it. We just pick things we like. Things we find interesting. Things we find unusual. Things we find beautiful.
Picked Pens tend to have something visual going on. If you write the most clever JavaScript sorting algorithm ever, but the result is a white page, it’s less likely to be picked because an empty thumbnail looks awkward in the Trending feed.
Tips for getting your Pen seen by our pickers
There are a couple of ways to make it easier for our pickers to find your Pen.
- Give your Pen a title and description
- Add relevant tags to the Pen
- Share it! Tweet it and mention us, or write about it on dev.to and give it the #codepen tag
No promises, but those are all good ways to help get your Pen in front of us.
If we pick your Pen, you’ll get a notification in your activity feed. We send the notification immediately when your Pen gets picked, but your Pen will go into a queue of picked Pens and most likely will not appear on the homepage until later in the day. It all depends on how many other Pens are in the queue ahead of yours.
If you aren’t picked, it doesn’t mean that you don’t do good work. We hope you don’t take it too personally. Making it to the Picked section might be some temporary fun, but the community you build for yourself here is the real magic.
The Following Feed
The Following Feed is a feed just for you with content from created by or liked by users you’ve chosen to follow on CodePen. The feed is mostly content created by them, but can also include content that they have liked, forked, or added to a collection.
If you haven’t followed many (or any) CodePen users yet, this feed may be sparse, but there will be suggestions of who to follow sprinkled into the feed, and persistently below it.
Following & Unfollowing Members
On any profile page, can view list of who follows that user and who they follow. This is true for your own profile as well. Also on profile pages is one of the places you choose to follow or unfollow any particular user, though that option shows up other places, like on individual Pens owned by that user.
The profile page is the only place you can choose to block a user.
