We may use third parties to assist us in processing your personal information, and we require that such third parties comply with our Privacy Policy and any other appropriate confidentiality and security measures. We may make your identifiable information, information you provided that is associated with your Company account (the “Account”) and the Content available to our employees and third parties with whom we contract for use to handle your Account. In addition, we may provide anonymous information about you to advertisers, service providers and other third parties.

We may use certain other information collected from you to help diagnose technical problems, administer the CodePen Site, and improve the quality and types of services delivered. The personal information we collect is not shared with or sold to other organizations for commercial purposes, except to provide products or services you’ve requested, when we have your permission, or under the following circumstances:

  • if CodePen is acquired by or merged with another company. In this event, CodePen will notify you before information about you is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
We might use the analytics data to figure out how to make the site better. We don't currently, but it's possible we might serve contextual ads based on that data (e.g. an ad for a jQuery course by a pen that uses jQuery). We may show potential advertisers anonymous aggregate data (e.g. pageviews). We may use a Pen you have created to help use troubleshoot the site.

Most importantly: your information is never shared or sold to anybody unless we are required to by law.

Security

CodePen has implemented processes intended to protect user information and maintain security of data. Each Account holder is assigned a unique user name and password, which is required to access their Account. It is each user’s responsibility to protect the security of his or her login information. We have attempted to protect CodePen’s servers by locating in them areas with security procedures, using of firewalls and implementing other generally available security technologies.

These safeguards help prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the appropriate use of data, but NO GUARANTEE CAN BE MADE THAT YOUR INFORMATION AND DATA WILL BE SECURE FROM INTRUSIONS AND UNAUTHORIZED RELEASE TO THIRD PARTIES.

You have a login and password to get into CodePen. You have a responsibility to protect that. We store that information. We also have a responsibility to protect that and will do our absolute best to do so. Unfortunately there are bad people out there and we can't guarantee there will never be a data breach.

Please review the privacy policies of each website you visit to better understand their privacy practices. In addition, the Company would like to inform you that anytime you click on links (including advertising banners), which take you to third party websites, you will be subject to the third parties' privacy policies. When you use the CodePen Site, we make good faith efforts to provide you with access to your personal information and either to correct this data if it is inaccurate or to delete such data at your request if it is not otherwise required to be retained by law or for legitimate business purposes. You may update your Account information by logging into your Account. When requests come to CodePen with regard to personal information, we ask individual users to identify themselves and the information requested to be accessed, corrected or removed before processing such requests, and we may decline to process requests that are unreasonably repetitive or systematic, require disproportionate technical effort, jeopardize the privacy of others, or would be extremely impractical (for instance, requests concerning information residing on backup tapes), or for which access is not otherwise required. In any case where we provide information access and correction, we perform this service free of charge, except if doing so would require a disproportionate effort. You can change or delete all your personal information on CodePen from the CodePen itself. We won't change personal information via email request (it's not secure) and we won't change personal information in our backups (it's not practical).

Changes to this Policy
