This week on CodePen was amazingly musical!

For me, and all David Bowie fans, it started on a downbeat with news of his passing. The CodePen community helped soothe my sadness with some works of truly beautiful frontend art, including this gorgeous animated portrait by Joe Harry.

On Wednesday, Gregor Adams celebrated his 888 followers by showing us all an extraordinary feat of React.js wizardry — he conjured up a working TR-808 drum machine!

If you’re not sure what to do with all those switches and knobs, you can watch Gregor play it on YouTube.

And, to play us out to the weekend, Josh Ellis gives us an interactive SVG drumset to accompany his strummable SVG guitar.

You can hear Josh playing his CodePen drums on Vine.

Rock on everybody! TGIF 🎸
